3rd Ear Music's Hidden Years Archive Project is a unique collection of alternative South African music - Live Recordings from Festivals, Concerts & Clubs or at independent Studios - 1964 to 1994 - SAfrican music legends & forgotten heroes - from Township Jazz to City Folk, from Zulu Maskandi to Political Rock 'n Roll.

The Hidden Years Music Archive Project> Roger Lucey - 21 Years down the road - almost became 22 years down the gravel path... but at long last the long-awaited double (limited edition ) CD-R of 21 great tunes - the very best of Roger's original "Road is Much Longer / Half Alive & Running for Cover" albums - are now available on line or from 3rd Ear Music. The CD-R's include a host of new tunes recorded in Cape Town over the past 5 years.

Internationally renowned SAfrican author Rian Malan has researched & written a remarkable expose for Rolling Stone magazine in the USA, on the murky side of music's international mainstream. It's about SAfrican singer-songwriter Soloman Linda - The man who recorded & composed Mbube (aka - The Lion Sleeps Tonight / Whimaway / In the Jungle, etc.).

The Hidden Years Book - Terry Rosenberg and Melvin Peters at the Blue Zoo> The Hidden Years Book - Terry Rosenberg has agreed to help fund the 3rd Ear Music Hidden Years Book. Terry, who has been one of this country's most active 'back-room' workers, who has helped steer this country (and the kZN province in particular) through some remarkably tough political & economic times & changes. Terry has been renowned and respected as a businessman & sportsman for many years, but not too many people in the world of business & politics have been aware, that among its many talents, he is also a musician of note who wants to do all he can to help local musicians & music. Terry has been playing gigs recently with Alan Judd & Dan Chiorboli. His patronage of 3rd Ear Music & the Hidden Years Book has not only assured a start on a remarkable piece of Hidden History, but it also includes the synopsis for a proposed British TV Documentary on the SAfrica's Hidden Music Years that Keith Huxley is working on in Cape Town.

The South African - Norwegian Education & Music Programme - MMINO > Norwegian Grant-In-Aid for the Hidden Years Music Archive project - The South African - Norwegian Education & Music Programme - MMINO - has, through the National Arts Council of South Africa, awarded 3rd Ear Music a grant-in-aid for the year 2001. 3rd Ear Music would like to thank all those concerned for making this grant possible, but with special acknowledgement to Ole Reitov of MMINO and the Norwegian Department of Arts & Culture who are doing so much for South African Arts & Culture; to the local MMINO co-ordinators Nicky du Plessis and Edgar Masuku; Ms Doreen Nteta the CEO of the NAC and to Edwin Sipho Rihlamvu and the NAC board & staff for their kind assistance over the past 2 years.
